CMEx Honors Sir Baltron B. Bethel with First Lifetime Achievement Award

The Cainbbean Mdeia Exhange (CMEx) wiill paitend its fi rst Lfetime Achievement Aware to Sir Baltron B. Bethel of The Bahamas. In recognition of his remarkable contributions to Caribbean tourism, Sir Baltron will be honored during the 2025 CMEx Leadership Awards in Miami.

Sir Baltron, a native of Eleuthera, is widely regarded as one of the most influential figures in Caribbean tourism. He made history as the first Bahamian Director General of Tourism and served for a record number of years in the position. Throughout his tenure, he played an essential role in elevating The Bahamas’ tourism sector, making it a prominent player on the world stage.

His extensive career spanned decades, during which he guided tourism policies and developed strategies that propelled the Bahamas into a competitive global market. Sir Baltron also held leadership roles across the Caribbean, including serving as Chairman of the Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO). His influence extended far beyond tourism, encompassing educational, economic, and community development sectors.

In addition to his tourism contributions, Sir Baltron made significant contributions to public service and education. His leadership reached into local communities, where he worked with various institutions to strengthen the nation’s development. Sir Baltron’s service to The Bahamas has earned him numerous accolades, including the World Travel Award for Caribbean Man of the Year in 1982.

His achievements have been recognized internationally, with notable honors such as the Companion of the Most Distinguished Order of St. Michael & St. George (CMG) awarded by Queen Elizabeth II in 1990. Later, in 2007, he was elevated to Knight Commander (KCMG) for his dedication to nation-building and public service. In 2023, The Bahamas celebrated his contributions with the National Public Service Award of Excellence and the Medal of Honor during the nation’s Golden Jubilee.

In 2024, Sir Baltron was named a Companion of the Order of The Bahamas (CB), marking his extraordinary service to the country.

CMEx, an influential organization in the Caribbean tourism industry, will present the Lifetime Achievement Award to Sir Baltron for his remarkable legacy in tourism development. The award will honor his role in shaping modern Caribbean tourism and his commitment to regional collaboration, which amplified the Caribbean’s voice on the global stage.
